Our approach to Museum settings is really an extension of the approach for Conservation. Within Museum settings the elements of the site and building resource fall under greater scrutiny for displaying the nature of the house and to guide interpretation. The museum can be a setting with a controlled environment that needs to find ways to incorporate mechanical systems and lighting that do not deter from the original character of the site. This interface with contemporary technologies within the fabric of a heritage setting must be engaged with care. The firm’s ongoing work on the Montgomery Inn is a good example of integrating current lighting system components into the context of the heritage fabric of the building. Previous design work had integrated air conditioning supply vents into concealed locations at the base of existing wall trims.
