Mather Walls

Client: Ontario Heritage Trust

Project Completion: 2010

Constructed in 1889, the Mather Walls House is a Queen Anne–style frame residence located in Keewatin (Kenora), Ontario. Designed by Winnipeg architect George Browne, it is the most intact of three identical dwellings commissioned by lumber baron John Mathers. Today, the property is owned by the Ontario Heritage Trust and operates as a living history museum under the stewardship of the Lake‑of‑the‑Woods Historical Society.
In 2010, the Trust engaged George Robb Architect to undertake a condition assessment and oversee restoration. The work encompassed site improvements, repair and replacement of wood siding and trim, restoration of storm and operable windows, and painting. A major re‑roofing was also completed, employing cedar shingles on the sloped roof sections and a single‑ply membrane on the flat roof of the central widow’s walk.
