Since 2009, George Robb Architect has undertaken conservation work at the 1830s Montgomery Inn. Work has included the renewal of the 1988 office area, new cedar shingle roofing, restoration of historic chimneys, repointing the stone retaining wall, and site improvements. In 2016, GRA participated in the “re restoration” of the museum as part of the City’s policy of revisiting curatorial assumptions for museums. Collaborating with Museum staff, the project assessed interiors including plaster, lighting, carpentry, mechanical, and painting. Both radar scanning and paint analysis informed restoration decisions, which included repairs to interior walls, consolidating cracked plaster, and uncovering original window openings. The work included recreating candlelight conditions with LED technology.
