JR Park Homestead

Client: Essex Region Conservation

Project Completion: December 2024

The J. R. Park Homestead, a 14‑acre living museum operated by the Essex Region Conservation Authority since 1978, was originally acquired by John Richardson Park and his brothers in 1833. The main house, built in 1842, is complemented by eleven barns and outbuildings constructed between 1840 and 1888.
In 2022, George Robb Architect was retained to conduct a condition assessment of all twelve structures, identifying necessary repairs and restoration. The report highlighted insect damage to the house’s cedar log rafters and recommended reinforcement.            By spring 2023, drawings and specifications were prepared to reinforce the roofs and restore the south lakeside elevation, including foundations, porch, eavestroughs, and selected windows. Work began in October 2023, with additional exterior restoration scope added on a time and material basis.
