Whitchurch-Stouffville Residence

Set within a 34 acre hardwood forest, this country residence occupies the north edge of a ravine, part of a Natural Linkage Area in the Oak Ridges Moraine. Positioned along the ravine’s crest, the home benefits from southern exposure and expansive forest views, while its northern elevation opens to a meadow with lawns, gardens, and a tennis court framing the entrance.
Designed in 1984 by George Robb, the house was constructed on the foundations of a pre existing residence. Its composition features two principal rectangular volumes: the larger includes the main living spaces, and the smaller the garage, storage, and a second floor studio with the entry serving as the link. Architectural elements include a cylindrical volume containing the kitchen with the master bathroom over, and a glass cube forming the master bedroom, elevated on columns above the living room. A north facing hallway connects these forms with a spiral stair linking the three floors.
