Shaw House

Client: Town of Richmond Hill

Project Completion: 2005

The Shaw House project involved reconstructing a timber‑frame Regency cottage, originally built circa 1830 on Yonge Street in Richmond Hill, and adding a new washroom facility in Phyllis Rawlinson Park. Much of the original sawn and hand‑hewn timber—including rafters, beams, joists, studs, and cabinetwork—was preserved and reused in the reconstruction.
Serving as both a base for Parks staff and a classroom for school programs, the project was carefully documented to illustrate traditional timber‑frame construction. Interpretive elements were incorporated by exposing original materials within the building envelope, reinforcing its role as an educational and heritage resource.
