North Meadow Daycare

When declining enrollment threatened the viability of Bishop Scalabrini Catholic Elementary School, the Board partnered with Upper Canada Child Care to revitalize the facility by introducing a daycare centre. The 6,200 sq. ft. daycare was developed within the existing shop and family studies wing, chosen for its grade access, proximity to parking, and direct connection to the gymnasium.
The design introduced a central lobby with vaulted ceiling and reception area, along with a new cross corridor that organized classrooms and support spaces. Age‑appropriate features—including child‑height sinks, modified cabinetry, and seamless toddler change counters—were incorporated to enhance accessibility and functionality. Interior windows increased openness and visibility, creating a welcoming environment for children and staff.
