This multi use facility, jointly developed for the Town of Essex and the Essex Board of Education, was sited on the Essex District High School. The project added a double gymnasium/auditorium, a 25 metre swimming pool, leisure pool, weight training room, meeting spaces, offices, support facilities, and a Youth Drop In Centre—providing the school with a new auditorium and community swimming program.
The south addition integrated Town lands with school property, incorporating parking and a bus loop. The design placed the gymnasium on the east side and the swimming facility within a former courtyard, linked by a central concourse.
The 25 metre pool was angled to create flexible seating and teaching areas, while the leisure pool combined a training pool, whirlpool, and waterslide. Both pools provide barrier free access.
