City Hall Doors Restoration

Client: City of St. Catharines
Project Completion: August 2022

St. Catharines City Hall, built in 1937 in the Art Deco style, features brass entry doors and windows that had deteriorated over time. In 2018, George Robb Architect was engaged to restore these elements, addressing corroded hinges, stained transoms, and warped panels. The solution involved shop-based repairs, cleaning, polishing, and lacquering of the doors, along with repairs to the high windows and installation of stronger exterior brass storm windows. The adjacent floor finishes required localized restoration. Wiring for new devices (mag-locks & pull stations) was concealed inside new brass channels installed to brass door frames and adjacent stone wall dado. The project preserved the building’s historic character while enhancing durability.
