Built in 1871, Ancaster Old Town Hall was a political hub and hosted Edison’s “magic phonograph” in 1878. This Georgian‑style limestone landmark, designated under the Ontario Heritage Act, is noted for its cupola, porch, rose window, and tall arched wood windows.
In 2014, George Robb Architect oversaw foundation repairs and ventilation upgrades, followed by restoration of windows, doors, and transom in 2016. Conservation included repairing frames, re‑puttying glazing, replacing panes with salvaged heritage glass, repointing stonework, and updating hardware. Finishes were completed with linseed oil paint in historically appropriate colours, preserving the building’s integrity.
