Little Guard
The "Little Guard" coffee table is the product of an inner office design charrette which required the upcycling of a handsome slab of salvaged curly German ash with one live edge. The wood is an offcut of a kitchen counter from another GRA project. Partner Don Scott's design was chosen, proposing the slab's union with two highway road guards.
Discarded pieces of road guards from the Don Valley Parkway were provided by the City of Toronto Works Department, and combined with stainless steel rod, bolts, and washers to create the base. The slab of wood was fitted with aluminum Z clips to allow the top to clip onto the base without modification to the road guards.
